Professional Areas of Interest

  • ​Adolescents and young adults with developmental disabilities in a hospital-based setting or community-based setting. 

  • Inpatient Rehab working with patients with CVA, TBI, SCI, orthopedic conditions, neurodegenerative conditions.

Professional Development Plan

  • OTD Program​

    • At the end of each semester, I will create a learning guide to keep track of all information learned in each semester to carry with me to fieldwork and professional practice. 

    • I will achieve at least a 3.5 GPA each semester

    • By May 2023, I will identify my top three populations, settings, and facilities to begin applying for jobs.

    • By June 2023, I will create a study plan to study each week for the NBCOT exam. 

  • Fieldwork

    • My goal for fieldwork is to increase my confidence with evaluations, treatment planning, activity analysis, documentation, and clinical reasoning through various settings.

    • Level 1 Pediatric Fieldwork

      • Forest Hills School District

        • By the end of 6 weeks, my goal is to plan a treatment session and implement an intervention and write a goal and progress note.

        • Results: I did plan a treatment session independently and implemented the intervention. It was successful. I did write a goal and progress note.

    • Level I Pediatric Fieldwork​​

      • Recreation Unlimited​

        • By the end of the weekend, my goal is to assist an individual in at least one ADL activity.​

        • Results: I assisted one individual with zipping his coat and teaching him effective strategies. He was able to do it independently by the end of the weekend.

    • Level I Adults/Geriatrics

      • Coldspring Transitional Care Center (SNF/LTC)​

        • By the end of 6 weeks, I will complete a transfer independently with supervision using correct technique and safety awareness.​

        • Results: I completed multiple transfers to/from different surfaces (bed, w/c, mat table) with supervision from my FWE with correct technique and safety awareness.

      • The Christ Hospital (Acute Care)​

        • By the end of 6 weeks, I will be able to complete an evaluation with supervision.​

        • Results: I completed an evaluation in collaboration with my FWE and led the ADL evaluation portion.

    • Level II ​Fieldwork

      • Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (Outpatient Pediatrics)​

        • Goal: To become competent in the outpatient pediatric setting and obtain 100% of FWE caseload with supervision.

        • Results: I achieved competency in a variety of areas: Thomas Center for Down Syndrome Clinic, General development division, interdisciplinary feeding team, and Kelly O'Leary Autism Center. I independently provided evaluations and treatment to patients on my FWE caseload.

      • Encompass Rehabilitation in Norwood (Inpatient rehabilitation)

        • Goal: To become a competent therapist and evaluate and treat patients with spinal cord injury, stroke, and brain injury and obtain 100% of FWE​ caseload with supervision.

        • Results: I became competent in evaluating and treating patients with spinal cord injury, brain injury, and stroke and obtained 100% of providers caseload with supervision. 

  • Capstone

    • Advocacy/Program Development to create a transition program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and advocating for OTs role in Project SEARCH.

      • Site Mentor: Dr. Rebecca Weisshaar, OTD, OTR/L & Dr. Dennis Cleary, MS, OTD, OTR/L

      • Faculty Mentor: Dr. Joan Tunningley, Ph.D., OTR/L, BCP

    • Goals:​

      • Develop a 6-week occupational therapy group on a transition to adulthood topic for adolescents and young adults ages 14-22 by December 2023.

      • Develop a transition toolkit with updated evaluation templates and intervention tools for CCHMC OT/PT department to utilize by December 2023.

      • Demonstrate the effectiveness of OT services to increase occupational performance and role competence for Project Search employees by December 2023.

  • Year 1 Practice​

    • Upon graduation, I will work in outpatient pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

    • By year 1 of practice, I will work in a pediatric inpatient setting working to empower children and families to learn skills and provide meaning despite a traumatic event or injury. 

    • By year 1 of practice, I will publish a retrospective review journal article on the CCHMC OTPT Transition Services: Thrive Program. 

    • By year 1 of practice, I will run 1 occupational therapy transition group as a clinician on healthy lifestyles at CCHMC through the Thrive Program.

  • Year 5 of Practice​

    • By year 5 of practice, I will publish a research article on outcomes for people with disabilities post-graduation. 

    • By year 5 of practice, I will be running 3-5 transition groups per year through the CCHMC OTPT Thrive Program. 

    • By year 5 of practice, I will be practicing in a speciality clinic at CCHMC to expand my advanced clinical skills. 

    • By year 5 of practice, occupational therapy will be integrated as a consultative service in the Adolescent and Transition Medicine clinic.
